Russia welcomes the strength Chinese enterprises to participate the LED renovation projects for public institutions of Russia and CIS countries, large industrial and mining enterprises, sports stadiums and others.
According to Gruzdev Alexey’s introduction, Russian LED industry was developed rapidly last year, the growth rate is 250%, and LED lighting accounted for 10% of market share. Data shows that the Russian LED bulbsales in 2013 are 1 billion units, with total sales of 40 billion rubles (about 1.11 billion US dollars). As the Russian government introduced a series of measures to promote energy-saving light sources, it is expected that Russia LED lighting market share will increase to 35% of whole lighting industry in 2016.
Last year, Chinese LED products export to Russia and CIS countries is $ 800 million, which Russia accounted for 75.74%. China LED products accounted for more than 40% of Russian market.
“We strongly encourage Chinese advanced enterprises to invest in Russia, there many Chinese enterprises may worry about the problem of investment environment, tax, legal protection and other issues, the Russian government has done a lot of work in the past few years, and have improved greatly in company registration, investment, banking services, tariffs and other aspects.” Gruzdev Alexey said.

The LED Lighting Deal Landscape Is Growing, But Not Matching Expectations.sourcechipglen
Although significant consolidation has already occurred across the LED value chain, further consolidation will be required for the market to mature to a stable state.
Some of the drivers of this process will be achieving economies of scale, cost reductions, sustainable market share and access to innovative IP to meet rising output requirements. Memoori recently released a research report on investment activity in the LED sector, finding that deal activity has not met expectations set a couple of years ago.
Both overall VC Investment flows and cleantech-specific VC funding were on a downward trend in 2012 and 2013; however, of all the cleantech sectors, energy efficiency companies continued to attract the most VC investment throughout 2013.
According to data from the Cleantech Group, the sector soaked up 19 percent of all venture investments during the first six months of 2013. The number of energy efficiency deals rose 45 percent in the second quarter for a total of 79 through June.

Princeton University has announced the start of a project that will see more than 100,000 fixtures across the New Jersey campus upgraded to LED technology by the end of December 2016. A member of the elite Ivy League of schools that date to colonial American times, Princeton believes that adopting LEDs can contribute 16% to the Princeton Sustainability Plan goal of reducing the campus carbon footprint to 1990 levels prior to 2020.

"The Lighting Efficiency Upgrade Program can transform Princeton's lighting systems to one of the most modern, reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible of their kind," said campus energy manager Bill Broadhurst. "The recent progress made in LED technologies also has allowed these projects to be good investments financially."
The university had tested LED lighting in a number of locations over the past few years including parking areas, a gymnasium, and select academic buildings. The project that kicked off in July will cover the entire campus. Already the project has resulted in retrofits in Icahn Laboratory, Fine Hall, parts of the Engineering Quadrangle and 701 Carnegie Center.
A number of universities around the globe are finding that LED technology can both improve campus lighting and reduce costs in terms of energy usage and maintenance.The University of North Carolina has begun to renovate 13 campuses within its system. Dartmouth University reports that a retrofit in its Baker Berry Library delivered 66% energy savings. Moreover, MIT's iconic Great Dome is now lit with LEDs.
In the Princeton case, many of the early upgrades will come in the form of LED replacement lamps as the nearby photo illustrates. But ultimately the project will involve luminaires as well. Indeed, one project completed during trials was a complete retrofit of fluorescent fixtures in the university's Dillon Gymnasium with LED luminaires.
The university is shooting for a baseline 50% reduction in energy use with much of the legacy lighting comprising fluorescent products installed in a prior campus-wide retrofit two decades back. Moreover, the upgrade with longer-life LEDs will allow the university to eliminate the need to properly dispose of 60,000 lamps each year that contain mercury, and five tons of other waste including ballasts.
"In addition to the significant cost savings, revenues, and credits associated with using LED technology, the lighting upgrades also will lower the university's maintenance costs due to LEDs' long expected life," Broadhurst said. "The safety of the Princeton Facilities staff also will be enhanced by reducing the amount of time workers spend climbing ladders to replace thousands of burnt-out lamps each year."

Light-emitting diodes (LED) are semiconductors. As electrons pass through this type of semiconductor, it turns into light. Compared to incandescent and CFL bulbs, LED lights are more efficient at turning energy into light. Therefore, less of the energy radiates from the bulb as heat. This is why LED bulbs are cooler during operation than incandescent and CFL bulbs.
As the light-emitting diodes create light, they warm up quite a bit for their size. LEDs are heat sensitive, so it's important that the heat move away so that it doesn't damage the semiconductors. Although most of these lights last for about 25,000 hours, their warranties only cover about three years. This is perhaps because if you run the LED lamp continuously, it will only stay within the 70 percent range for a little less than three years. However, if you look on the Lighting Facts label of many LED lamps, it gives a life based on years. This is because the industry standard is three hours of use per day instead of 24 hours.
